There are some bugs in Beta 7 - I have had it reboot in the new Track Seek info mode several times. It seems to be related to booting into the middle of a track which has not been fully profiled yet.

Also, track seek mode stays blank for many of my tracks. These seem to be the tracks that I also have problems with clipping and distortion on. I am trying to work out exactly what the problem is here, there seem to simply be some MP3s that 2.0x doesn't like (reseting the metadata and reuploading the track doesn't solve it).

There shouldn't be any clipping and distortion in Beta7 - the normaliser was disabled...

Look at the tracks with a detailed tagger program like MP3 Tag Studio. Look into the advanced section and see if there's anything in there that is not present on your other tracks.

I had one file that emplode wouldn't even upload to the player. It had an imbedded image. Not a feature I care about right now, but I suppose it should qualify as a bug.

I think what I have is a different issue then. I will try and do a sensible write up of a bug for it.

In the meantime though, can a few people see if they have problems with clipping on the following file (3Mb in size).

I get crackles and distortion within the first couple of seconds of the track, this doesn't happen on WinAmp or on 1.03 of the player code. I have many tracks that are afflicted in this way.

They are tracks that I ripped myself, mainly with Audio Catalyst. The only thing that I can think that is different is that they probably have broken VBR headers because they were ripped after I installed RealPlayer.

I just grabbed that file and added it to the player (running Beta7 code). It sounds fine on my player.

If you heard the crackles and distortion on Beta3 (of the PLAYER software) then it's a known bug that's fixed in Beta7. Upgrade to Beta7 and all will be well.

If you had the crackes and distortion on beta7, and you've checked your EQ/loudness to make sure they're not over-tweaked, then report it in bug reports.

The crackles and distortion first started on beta3, but they also happen with beta7. My loudness is at zero and my volume level is below 0dB.

I will report it as a bug when I have tried to work out what connects the tunes that have the problems.

Just for the heck of it, try right-clicking on the file in Emplode and hitting "reset metadata" and see if that fixes it? Dunno if this is related, but it can't hurt to try.

I have aleady done that.

Even reuploading the track from scratch or using "replace tune" does not help. I am going to be doing some more testing with my Mk1 as well as the Mk2a to see if I can work out what is going on.

Has any apart from Tony tried out my example MP3 ?

And you're sure you upgraded THE PLAYER ITSELF to beta7, and not just emplode?

Within the first couple seconds all I hear is 'guitar pick
on string' noise. 2b7(dev) player and 2b7emplode now.

That goes on a LONG time in this track. Mike was a bit
too close to the acoustic I guess.

Is the clipping at home or in the car? But you are sure it
doesn't happen in 1.03 you said.

Yes Tony and I am still trying to work out exactly what the seek tool is actually supposed to be used for...

I have only tested it in at home (my player isn't mounted in my car at the moment). I have been aware of the problem for a few weeks now, I had to downgrade to 1.03 when I demo'd my Mk2a to a potetial new empeg owner to other day. Downgrading fixed the problems, going back to 2.0b3 and now 2.0b7 brought them back.

I need to check that my Mk1 has the same problems, it definitely has distortion problems, but I'm not sure if they go away with 1.03
