WOOHOO !!!!!!

i have finally got my empeg installed and running - this thing ROXXX !!!!!!!!!
i am driving a 4 X 150W amp, with 150W 6"x9" rear speakers and 80W 4" door speakers.

had to cut away a little of the dash to fit it in - but you cant really notice, especially when the empeg is plugged in and running.

new visualisations in beta 5c are great too.

sound clarity - awesome
bass response - car-shaking.

fanstastic thumbs up to the Empoeg team !!!

Eventually my empeg will rest with my PPI PC4200 (maybe a PC6600 soon) and MBQuart RKB100's (4" in dash) and Kicker i690 (6"x9" in rear deck) and possibly a 10" sub or too.

I did and I know too much can very well ruin a stereo.

Here is my current situation: 4" MBQuart RKB 100s (Man you are 100% right Quarts are awesome!) in the dash, Kicker i690 6x9 in the rear deck. This is run by a PPI PC4200 and a Clarion ProAudio 5575(can't remember exact number). What I would like to do is have one amp for everything including a possible 10" sub or some component speakers for my front doors (I believe 1" and 5-1/4" maybe 6").

With the PC6600 I could run all four of my current speakers and bridge the last two for a sub, or use them for possible component speakers. I know I don't want or need booooom booooom boooom or triple decibel levels either. As it is I don't have the gain on the PC4200 set very high right now as I don't need it too loud. I just want the six channels that the PC6600 has.

Well I nixed the PC6600, I am staying with my PC4200. I have decided to add a 10" Kicker CompVR and will probably add a Kicker ZR120 amp for the sub.

Any comments?

I think you're on the right track - particularly with the separate amp for the sub. That gives you so much more ability to balance the bass/sub-bass levels relative to the higher frequency sound. I can't tell you how many stereos I've seen with boxes full of subwoofers and a single big amp, where the owner had to crank so much bass out of the head unit to make it listenable that all the mid-bass went away too. We call those Hiss-Boom systems -- 5KHz and up, and 90Hz and down with nothing in between.

I'm currently running the same 4" MB Quart co-axials in my dash that you are, plus a pair of 6" MB Quarts in the doors and a 5.25" MB Quart center channel speaker, all off of a PPI 100 watt amplifier; then in the back I have a single 10" Orion dual voice coil speaker running full range - not as a subwoofer - on a separate PPI 50 watt amplifier. I added individual pots so I could attenuate the three mid-size MB Quarts independently - I can control both the amount and location of my mid-bass that way. No equalizers, no crossovers, no speaker boxes, all simple, all totally stealth, and if I can believe the competition judges, exceptionally high sound quality.

Be sure to tell us how it works out, particularly any differences (better/worse) when you switch from your CD player to the empeg.

I'm currently running a cheap (<$300) Panasonic CD player. Sometime (probably in the next millennium --- are you listening, Rob?) I'll have this really neat head unit that plays MP3 compressed sound files and can hold up to 500 hours of music. Some outfit in England makes it, Impeg, Empig, something like that ;-)

I installed the Panasonic because it had an auxiliary input, and at the time I had incredible delusions of technical competence and was in the process of trying to design and build my own MP3 player. Thank you Hugo, Rob, Mike et. al. for saving me from myself!

Any particular reason you needed to cut the dash to fit the unit in ? Was there a problem with the DIN size ?

I only ask since I took posession of a Holden Commodore VT Series II on tuesday (can't wait till I run the car in and give the 5.7L V8 a burl !), and want to put an empeg in the car as soon as I can scrape up enough pennies. However, I don't want to physically modify the car in any way. The measurements of the empeg look ok to fit, but you know these Australian Manufacturers ;)
