So I completely uninstalled the version of Emplode that came on CD, and installed the 2.00-beta7 release, and I have a problem.

When the app launches and searches for a player, it only sees "unknown player on USB" or "unknown player on COM1". The old Emplode app had no problem detecting the empeg-car player, and it looks like it's installed properly (in SysInfo).

I'm running Win2K. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

I have the same proble,m. I think there may be a problem with the 2.0b7 version of Emplode and USB connections. I am awaiting a ethernet card to use the ethernet connection before I can install 2.0b7.

Are you sure you installed the MK II upgrade?

The empload installer also installs the rio upgrade wizard

You need to download the player image, either the consumer or developer, then use the upgrade wizard to install it to the player.

I realize that the install notes are not very specific on the how too's of it all

The emplode version and the player software version must match, or at least be compatible.

I had a lot of trouble with 2.0 beta 7 and USB on WinXP.
Sometimes it wouldnt discover the empeg at all, other times it gave me that "unknown player" error. And sometimes in the middle of a synch it would drop the connection, and fail out.
I switched over to ethernet, and al is well.
Maybe related, maybe not.
My upgrade worked fine, and emplode 1.X also seemed to work fine. Granted I didnt use it all that long.

The 1.03 player software will not talk to the 2.0x emplode.

You've done the right things so far, you just haven't done enough things yet. You're not done.

You need to upgrade the player to 2.0b7. Grab the 2.0b7 car2 ".upgrade" file from the support site and double-click on it. More details on upgrading can be found here.

I looked at the FAQ there Tony And there isn't (that I could see from your link) any bright lettering toensure that the player and emplode versions ALWAYS remain identical. Maybe a small entry to say such is needed as it seems to ba a trap for some at the moment. It is mentionedi in point 8 of How do I upgrade the firmware on the player, and will it erase my music files?. Should it be a bit more prominent?

any bright lettering toensure that the player and emplode versions ALWAYS remain identical.

There isn't any bright lettering because it's not true.

Any 2.0x emplode can talk to any 2.0x player. Right now you've only got two possible 2.0x versions at your disposal (beta3 and beta7), but the player and emplode are interoperable between any 2.0x-protocol-speaking versions.

Same goes for 1.0x. 1.03 can talk to 1.02 or 1.01 or whatever else you want to dig up.

The ONLY problem is that you can't cross the 1.0x->2.0x boundary. I suppose I could put that in the FAQ. I was hoping 2.0 would be final by this point and I wouldn't have to worry about talking about 1.0x in the FAQ any more. I guess I still do.

Not to mention that the future plans are to completely decouple Emplode releases from player releases. You've been blessed with new emplode releases along with every player release, but that might not be the case in the future.
