I came back from CruzThs place where I got a chance to watch his CNC machine milling a faceplate out of wood. Like watching a piece of cheese whacked away. The wooden faceplates are intricate and excellent. Definitely worth the price to anyone considering one, of course, it helps to have wooden interior decor. I did get a chance to see one in the Prowler which doesn't have wood interior and it looks sweet. So there you have it.

I had a chance to hold the aluminum one in my hand it is SOLID. :-D

Did rob mention how things were going with the machine shop that was going to make them for us?

...wouldn't that make it look like an iMac?

If he made fascia in a brushed, dark titantium-tone, I'd be all over it.

I talked to the guy from the machine shop this weekend and he said his machinist still hasn't gotten a chance to play around with it. I don't think they are going to put any big priority on the project since they really won't make any money on the deal. 2 other machine shops wanted over $150 each to cut for me with a minimum of 100 units. The shop that I'm currently waiting for them to work on it is managed by a friend of mine.

I'm sorry that is the only answer I can give at this time. If anyone "REALLY" wants an aluminum fascia and is willing to pay a premium for my time, you can always e-mail and I will try and work something out.

Rob

Here are photos of the latest - This is a final product under going final fitting tests. This fascia is for Taym in Italy and is finished in multiple coats of Dark Walnut and MANY coats of varnish. The left side buttons are missing because I need to dremel away all the varnish that got into the button holes making the buttons not fit.

I noticed (or at least it looked like) you have put LEDs in the buttons.... just curious where you got them and how are you going to allow the light to pass through when the buttons are reinserted?
Are you making new custom buttons?

By the way that is one seriously good looking faceplate... Very nice work indeed!

There is no LED's in the button holes. The flash on my camera just made the button holes look really bright white.

It's a shame the handle can be done up in wood.

Just wondering, is it possible to design the fascia with a small light source that would illuminate around the button openings? Just a thought, can't really envision how good it would look.
