Is there a way to cause the player to go through all the songs that have not been "scanned" by the seek tool and have it pre-scan all the songs?

As a side note to your question, I've seen songs appear blank in the seek tool again, that I know were previously scanned. Anybody have any ideas on this? Possibly this is due to re flashing the unit? Like with a new version of Hijack?

Were is the seek tool info stored and what would overwrite it?

I would caution against worrying much about seek tool. It was included almost by accident and is very much subject to change. I would almost bank on the data format of the seek tool info changing in some way in a future release.

I think it only stores the profile when the disks are next spun up. It also doesn't store data during the middle of a scan (playback). If you turn off the player in the middle of an unprofiled track, you lose the profiling.

I'm not worried however as this tool will be revised and updated for sure.

I welcome as much feedback as people want to give about ALL the visuals including the seek tool.

You can rest assured that the seek tool will NOT disappear and will continue to be improved - the feedback has shown that it is a very workable concept.

The Seek Tool will only store a profile for a track it has completed profiling - Until the profile is complete the data it has accumulated so far is too low resolution to be able to piece it back together and continue where it left off for a track.

It is unlikely that in the foreseeable future the profiled information will be stored at a high enough resolution to make it worth storing partial profiles.

Okay i would like to see the static digital clock visual with a new background like on of the spectro64 visuals as the clock digits are slightly transparent and it would be way cool to have that behind it.

is there any progress from anyone on getting the bitmap for the dancing lizards visual user changable.

Holy misunderstandings, Batman! I was not criticizing the seek tool! I was referring to this comment from Rob in which there was concern that it was released too soon. Maybe "by accident" was the wrong terminology, but I was trying to say that in 2.0b7 at least, it was a brand new feature and had some "growing up" to do. When did I say it would disappear? I said it was subject to change which all things are, right?

I happen to love the damn thing by the way, as this glowing praise should illustrate... Please don't mistake me for someone who's complaining about it! It's just a brand new feature and I know that brand new features change... that's all.

The Seek Tool made it into an alpha release before Christmas, and Rob wanted to do a beta release by which time I had already gone back to Somerset and would not be able to fix the bugs until my return after new year. In true festive spirit Rob decided to promote the alpha release to a beta release anyway.

My problem with your comment was not that it implied that you disliked the feature but that it implied that features are transient and users should not take them seriously until they have stabilized. This approach would mean that we would never get any feedback about features and functionality.

We may keep adding features, but that doesn't mean that the features are transient or fundamentally flawed. Remember we don't want to put off the hundreds of new users from using the latest beta releases, there have already been complaints from new users on this BBS about the stability of beta releases.

Anyway, thanks for the glowing praise which I was delighted to read whilst at home in Somerset over Christmas.

I see your point. But it didn't seem beyond the realm of possibility to me that the format of the seek tool metadata would change in a future release, and the guy was asking about how he could go about getting seek tool info generated for his entire collection. I'd hate to see someone go through all that trouble to have a future release change the format of the data, and he'd have to do it all over again.

But you're right. I'll stop scaring off the new users now.

Umm, actually I think we do want to put off the hundreds of new users from loading the Beta releases. There are some serious bugs in there at the moment, which could get scarey for a new user. For those who do not have a clear understanding of the issues I recommend sticking with 1.03 until the 2.0 bug list is somewhat reduced.

I havn't played with the Seek Tool too much, but being from a video background, I just LOVE the time-code display! Having this appear in other modes would be great! Also, a Transient info mode where the song and artist disappeared after some time but the elapsed time remained would be sweet.

We need to get your kick ass visuals piped to a NTSC or PAL output... droool.

Where does the information from all the scanned tracks actually get stored? I can't find it from looking around the player.

In the dynamic data partition - the only part of the disk which can be written in-car.

How about a 3 dimensional seek tool? Basically an isometric bar graph. The knob highlights particular "bars" on the bar graph.

Toby, thanks for fulfilling my wish for 'voiceprint' (TimeShade) visual! It's now my default visual. I only wish it would display dark shades of gray sooner (on quieter places) - now it mostly consists of bright white on black. Other additions are great as well.

Seeking in seek tool looks a bit erratic to me, but I will have to play some more before really complaining.

I have to say that Timeshade 128 is the most distracting visual on the player. I like it so much, and it is so mesmerizing, that I can't leave it up while driving. I'm liable to get in a wreck, it's that interesting to watch.

I think Toby has been doing some more random keyboard bashing recently - I just saw a whole bunch of new features on his player that you guys are going to love
