Ok, so I know absolutely nothing about car stereos, or even audio stuff in general, but after buying the Empeg I am finding myself sinking more and more money into my sound system. (I suppose that means I am hooked) I have bought several things from Ebay and am considering installing it myself and have been looking for tutorials and info. I have found several good websites but still feel I don't have enough hands-on info on actually installing things. Here is my reading list so far:

Everyone knows this one from the FAQ - http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/caraudio.htm
Install info for specific cars - http://www.installdr.com/home.html
The faq from rec.audio.car (Mar 2000) - http://www.mobileaudio.com/rac-faq/rac-faq_toc.html
Some limited info - http://www.caraudioanswers.com/
A very short little head unit install tutorial: http://www.18002526123.com/custasps/modelpageCarAudioSystemAudiophaseCA711.asp
A lot of tiny how-tos and tips by all different people: http://www.epinions.com/elec-Car_Stereo-Topics-2
Some very specific how-tos: http://www.ofsoundmind.com/main.htm
Some interesting datasheets and a subwoofer box tutorial: http://www.crossfirecaraudio.com/
Information on subwoofer enclosures: http://www.spiceisle.com/audiodiy/
MBQuart has a some good info: http://www.mbquart.com/ma-tech.htm
Crutchfield has a little manual: http://www.crutchfield.com/download/S-ZBTVfuXyLIN/carguide.html

Seems like a lot, but a good chunk is the same kind of info. If I see another description of the difference between a Sealed and Bandpass subwoofer setup, I am going to kill myself

So my question is, anybody know of any more good tutorials? Specifically more advanced stuff like Dynamat installing or putting Caps in?

Cool, Glad to help. I was hoping people would add some pages, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. I guess I am getting us much info as I am going to, hope I don't blow something (especially the Empeg).

Forums at www.carsound.com are better than most. The moderators are fairly active and actually know what they're talking about.

Thebest site I've ever found on Car Audio is the first one you linked @ eatel. Glad to know Tony has it in the FAQ now.

That's a pretty good one, thanks. I like forums, they are usually good sources of info.

Actually, the Eatel one has been in there all along, the only recent change was that it got moved to the first item on that FAQ page instead of the last. And I added a couple of the other links to that section.

Hi.

Regarding the above links: I was just looking for some info on the installdr.com page. Is anyone able to get any info from the "Do it yourself" part?

Are you getting javascript errors, cause I can't really use his site with IE 6.0 at all because of them. It works a lot better with Netscape or even IE 5 though. I suspect there is a bug in his browser detection code.

Hi.

I was looking for various VW Golf (1999 model) infos. But I even tried browsing his files directly (his directories that _should_ contain the info in question are browsable), but no luck.

Where you able to actually view the documentation for the Jetta?
I wasn't. I was able to click on the link but got a "404 document not found" error. That's how I actually started to browse the directory hierarchy, but only found (basically) empty directories.

You are right, theres nothing there. I was just looking at the tags on the page, I never clicked it to see if anything came up.
