Ok, I ready the FAQ, but all I found about Ethernet were trouble-shooting tips. I'm looking for something that will tell me how to connect it in the first place. The FAQ is so comprehensive that it's quite possible it's in there and I just missed it. If so, please feel free to direct me to that.

But I have another question as well. I already have an ethernet adapter installed for my cable modem. I don't remember the specifics of whether it's a 10 or 100, but I'm just wondering if based on that info alone, you might be able to tell me if I can use the same card to hook up my Empeg. I was lucky enough to get a 60 GB player, and I intend to fill it. Based on the speeds people have reported getting with USB, it would take me 3 full days to upload. So obviously, I prefer to be able to use the ethernet. Any tips?

Any old Network card should work. The empeg doesn't do 100baseT, so your stuck with 10. If you want to plug your empeg straight into your computer, you'll need a crossover ethernet cable. Once you plug it all up, you'll need to set an IP on the empeg through emplode's network settings with the USB or Serial cable, sync, then you'll be able to connect with ethernet. If you have a hub laying around, you can just use that and straight plain ol' ethernet cables. Any questions? =]

Also remember.... some older cards only work at 10 (which is cool) others only work at 100 (not cool)... Make sure you either have a card that works at 10 or an auto sensing card (10/100)... the same applies for hubs...

A stupid question: could I keep my player conncected on both serial and ethernet at the same time?

Yes. I do that all the time.

The emplode software will make you choose which of the two things to use for a given session, but it's possible, for example, to monitor the shell output in Hyperterminal while synching via USB or Ethernet.

Therefore, I could connect even USB togheter with the other two?

Yes, but you can only use one of them at a time for transferring music to the player.

Good advice, but to expound, if you have a hub or switching hub (often just called a switch) that will support both 10 Mbps and 100Mbps, then the NIC on your computer need not support 10Mbps, since the hub will handle that difference. On the other hand, some folks have reported odd problems with (usually cheaper) hubs not passing data properly to (from?) the empeg. On that front, I'd personally suggest Netgear. They seem to be both fairly inexpensive and quality.

its not that easy. im using xp. there are a bunch of settings i had to deal with. giving my computer an ip and such. im so lost. emplode wont recognize at all.
