I'm running WIndows XP Pro.

"Download failed while connecting to player. Failed to open database connection (error 0x80040015)"

The "Initializing" phase completes. The next phase, "Connecting to player," gets the red X.

When I revert to 1.03, I do not have this problem, and my database is fine, playlists and all.

Really, really tired of this. Any help besides "go back to 1.03" would be greatly appreciated.

Are you connecting to the player via the USB port?

There are known issues with USB on Windows XP, and no, they haven't been solved yet.

If you can reliably reproduce the USB-on-XP bugs, you might want to talk to [email protected] and offer to help them debug the problem. They're having trouble narrowing it down, and every time they tell somebody that Ethernet works fine on XP, they never get a call back (as the user switches to ethernet and the problems go away).

Yes, Tony, I am connecting via USB in Windows XP Pro.

What are these Windows XP USB issues, as relevant to the Rio Car player?

I'm not saying I don't believe you; I would simply like to be informed. I never have any problem with the six or seven other USB peripherals that I use regularly; the Rio Car is the only USB device that ever fails.

It works for us, but doesn't seem to work for quite a lot of other people.

I am having a problem with XP as well. Sometimes emplode detects the empeg over USB and sometimes it doesn't. It's just been hit or miss whenever I plug the cable in. It has also frozen on me once while updating the database.

Is Ethernet an option as a workaround? It's faster...

Hi Rob,

I've sent you an e-mail about this, as my laptop is seeing these problems.

I had a similar problem when I first got my empeg. I finally figured out that I had to upgrade the firmware on the player before I could use the new version of emplode (I was using win2k).

Oh yeah, he's got a point.

Milo, make sure that both your player and your emplode are the same version.

Was that all it was?

I just downloaded the new beta (v2.00-beta11), Emplode and car player software. I'm running Windows XP and experience the same problem as described in the original post

Download failed while connecting to player.

2.0b7 and 2.0b11, under WinXP with USB = BAD Combination for most people.

Use Ethernet (which is up to twice as fast anyway) or downgrade back through releases and keep trying USB.

My computer is hooked up on a wireless network and I have no hub to connect the car player to the network.

There must be a way to overcome the problems with USB? After all - the USB connection was one of the major features featured when the empeg was launched.

Windows XP has already become todays, and most sertain tomorrows, OS - I'm pretty sure that a lot of people will dislike having to go for Win98 og 2000 just because the car player does'nt connect through USB in XP.

Regarding ethernet vs USB, I have read a lot of posts on the subject, and my opinion after doing that is that there is only a marginal advantage. I'm I right?

I had the same problem with the 1.03 release. Sometimes emplode would not find the player over usb. I just disabled everything except USB in the options-->connection dialogue.

It has worked since then...

No, the difference is not marginal. ethernet is much faster.
