Hi,

I can understand the utility of being able to rename the aux input to the name of whatever's plugged into it. For example, I might rename mine to XM if I plug in an XM tuner. What I'm having a hard time understanding, however, is the ability to assign "album" "artist" and "track" names. I guess this is useful if you have a CD player hooked up that plays the same song over and over, but I don't understand it otherwise.

Can anyone give me a real world example of what they use these fields for, and why someone might find them useful?

What about just renaming the text labels in the Emplode dialog box so that they're "Line 1", "Line 2", etc., so that it's not confusing?

If they just correspond to the three lines of the display, that makes sense. However, that's evidently not all they do. Since the "track" line has that auto increment number thingie, it has to be treated a little differently by people like me who are figuring out what to put in those fields. Any way to turn that off?

Here are a few more questions about the "Aux Info" screen...

In my first post in this thread, I didn't post that I wanted to know more about the aux info screen since I was sure I'd be able to answer my questions by searching the BBS or the FAQ. However, I can't find any information anywhere. If someone can point me to where these questions are already answered, I'll humbly apologize.

So, on to the questions:

What the heck are these things on the "Aux Info" screen? The thing with the two vertical bars is measuring the volume of the incoming sound, right? So, what's that thing that looks like the radio signal strength meter? And (the real confusing part), what's that thing on the middle-left bottom that has that short vertical line that just jumps randomly from side to side for no discernable reason?

Does everyone know and they're just keeping it a secret from me?

Not sure what the icons around the screen mean on Aux mode, but that never really mattered. I just want Das Blinkenlichts to blink.

Well, I think the two vertical bars are the PAUSE icon...

Not the ones on the right. They're obviously some sort of meter. I'm a lot more curious about the signal strength looking thingy and the random jumping line thingy.

Tony, you're on the alpha list. Did any explanation of this screen ever come up in discussion?

Well to be technically correct a Haiku should be about something natural like the wind, or trees or whatever or have references to natural images.

A Haiku without natural elements/imagery is called something else also with a Japanese name (whose exact name escapes me for now).

For instance this haiku (from the book Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson)

Two tires fly. Two wail.



A bamboo grove, all chopped down



From it, warring songs

Now if you removed the reference to "a bamboo grove, all chopped down" (and replaced with something else: say
"empeg, car, Hijacked software").
Then it wouldn't be a Haiku anymore as it no longer has anything to do with nature/natural images/things.

If this haiku didn't mention Retriever (this image being one of a dog) and the wind, then it too would not be officially a haiku any more.
