I have a 98 Nissan Maxima. I tried to install my Rio car unit in, but it does not fit in the stock console piece. Has anyone else installed one in the same car?

The docking sled doesn't really fit. And also the rio car face seems to big. The screws on the side seem to get stuck.

From what I have ready the Rio is a little wider than most DIN sized stereos, and possibly the Maxima is a little narrower than most cars - this is a bad combo.

Supposedly you will have to shave the plastic on the Max.

I have a Max and am waiting to install my RioCar but am gathering all info first..

I can't even fit the rio by itself cause of the plastic in from. How do I go about shaving the plastic? Use a dremel of a tool like it?

I used a dremel tool for my Subaru Forrester install, just go slowly and carefully as it's hard to put the material back on.

And when you get "pretty close" to how you want it, use a block and some sandpaper and you'll get a nice straight edge.

Well I borrowed a dremel from my friend, man that thing is an amazing tool. Shaved off about 1/4 of an inch on both sides and it fits perfectly now. I should have drilled into the sled, but i just used the tabs. Seems pretty steady in place and all. But should it be difficult to pull out when I try and take it out?

Shaved 1/4 inch from each side fo your dash console?

So, does thise mean no modification is needed to the cage assembly where the stock stereo mounts?

What year Max btw> I have a '98.. Oh, post some pics too of the install with the empeg removed to if possible.. Thanks.

Well i kinda just bent the cage housing sorta. I would take a pic of that for you, but i would have to take out my dash again. But I'll snap some pics of the unit and the dash console without the rio in it tomorrow with my new CoolPix 995 camera
