im thinking ill either piss someone off or ill bug enough to maybe get this visual inplated.. toby says no.. maybe mark.. or someone can write or direct me to the right direction in writing a program to play and loop and animated gif.. it woudl be nice to have in implated into the players visuals.. but i could deal with it being on top of the player and have the player in the background.

I'm with Justin. I'll beg if that is what is required. I just think it would be cool, have all the gifs in a directory, have it change with every song, or let us scroll through them with the Select Mode button kinda like Flancedoor does. It would just impress the hell out of people.

I'll pass. I don't want anything to do with the proprietary .GIF format.

I'm sure the format is secondary to their wish. It can easily be accomplished in many ways and the files can easily be generated with existing tools and/or an additional converter.

I'd say this would be a wish best kept in mind for the eventuality of a 3rd-party plugin-api for visuals.

It does beg the question, though:

Which file format would you prefer to Animated GIF?

Can you think of one for which there is a myriad of tools available on multiple platforms with which to create animations? One which does not use lossy compression? One which can create files that are small and compact, suitable for the limited memory requirements of the player? The only other ones I can think of which would be suitable for this kind of task are all also proprietary by most definitions of the word.

IFF/ILBM ANIM format.

But it would be easy enough to make a simple substitute by just stringing full images together. No compession and no keyframes. Not efficient for storage, but it would work.

I'd just prefer something that I can use without fear of being arrested when I visit the "free" USA. Perhaps .png ?

I don't think ANYONE has been arrested for making a GIF. Like Mark said, aren't PNG's good? Couldn't something be created in a common GIF editing program like Adobe ImageReady and then be converted to PNG? Actually... that program does PNG anyway... oops!

Regardless, I prefer dynamic visuals. No looping animations. I think Toby made a comment like "at least you can take pride in the fact that you are not as easily ammused by looping animations as your friends are". Or something like that.... I can't find the actual post. hehe

"free" means differant things in differant situations...

they dont really need to be .gif.. jsut any format that you could have an editor for to animate something on the empeg.. and just loop it.. would be grand.. .gif is jsut kinda of a generic term for me.. becuase its the most popular of animations
