The directions are a little beyond my basic computer skills... but has anyone here done it? With Win2k?

Yes I had it installed on my computer. It ran fine with audiograbber. It was easy. Just unzip the huge database in a directory on your hard drive, then go into freedb settings and point to where u unzipped it. What problem are you having?

I havn't done it yet, but it was talking about using a RAW compression and I wasn't sure what was required to point AudioGrabber to it... I think I will take a stab at it tomorrow when I can download via the T1 at work (but only a 10base network! ).

Running this FreeDB locally is turning into a pain in the butt! First, I had to download 3 files to a folder from one ftp site. These will be used to extract the archive for Win2000. Then I had to download another "updater" program that is either huge or the ftp site is slow. Next, I will have to download the huge database. I guess the database isn't zipped anymore... they are using a new compression.

just 1.544mbs no big deal, i would really dig having that in my own home..

The point being that it's hardly 10Mbps ethernet that's a bottleneck.

BTW, my ADSL gets nearly 1.5Mbps download -- T1 is hardly such a big deal anymore. But the T3 (~45Mbps) that I had nearly exclusive access to for a month or so back in 1995 -- that was nice.

We had a t3 when I worked at Ford... drooool. 10Mpbs may not be the bottleneck, but would having too many computers connected to it make a difference? I found out the real "culprit" may be that our admin gave low priority (in the router) to http requests. Our network is a data network for a specialized job. Internet is just a side effect!

Obviously, if you've got 100 people trying to use 1.5Mbps, then it'd likely be faster to use a modem by yourself.

And low priority will only make a significant difference when you've got too much data pumping through there anyway. So no ... and yes.
