So far I've been unsuccessful on 2 different XP machines.
First I installed the jemplode with the VM.
After download, on the next window that pops up the one with the wrench on it, the status bar at the bottom gets about three quarters of the way across, and then it pegs the cpu at 100% and I have to end task it.

So I downloaded VM off the microsoft web site and installed the jemplode without the VM which seemed to install fine. But when I start the program it fails at start up, and I get this error:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/swing/UIManager
at org/jempeg/empeg/emplode/Main.main
at java/lang/reflect/Method.invoke
at com/zerog/lax/LAX.launch
at com/zerog/lax/LAX.main

Anybody got any idears?

Yep -- Microsoft's Virtual Machine is only Java 1.1 pseudo-compliant. I recommend first grabbing one of the full Windows installers from www.jempeg.org to get a 1.3 VM on your machine. Then from there on out you can just update jemplode20.jar in your install directory with the prerelease version.

Just good ole MS up to their old tricks. Grab an up-to-date Java VM from somewhere (anywhere) other than MS.

OK, maybe I'm missing something.

I looked at the page on suns site from jempeg.org's link, and they seem to only have a download for Alpha windows. No other flavor.
And as I said above, the full jemplode install with VM pegs my CPU at 100% indefinitely and I have to end task it.
Is there a standalone VM 1.3 I can download from somewhere and install?

That sucks that InstallAnywhere hangs ...

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html -- You want a 1.4 JRE for Windows (one of the top two on that page).

Still no good.
Are we sure that jemplode is XP compatible?
If I try to reinstall jemplode after installing the 1.4 JVM from sun I get this error:

Can't launch executable.
Could not load jvm.dll
Try re-installing the Java VM or change the Java VM used by the application.

And if I try to run the version that Is already installed I get the same error as above.
And this is on two totally different XP machines.
Anybody have a successful XP install?

After 1.4 is installed, try just downloading jemplode20.jar and double-click on it... See what happens.
