I've just put out Hijack v247. New in this version:
Now includes the volume-boost patch from genixia, which provides several new config.ini settings:
[hijack]
volume_boost_FM=nnn ;; -100 <= nnn <= 100
volume_boost_AM=nnn ;; -100 <= nnn <= 100
volume_boost_AUX=nnn ;; -100 <= nnn <= 100
volume_boost_MP3=nnn ;; -100 <= nnn <= 100
disable_bassboost_FM=1 ;; for tfabris
The built-in animation has been changed (again!)
Button labels in ir_translate now include an implicit .L specification for "Detail", "Hush", "Power", and "Equalizer" (the latter three also being newly supported names).
That's all folks!
Cheers

In case anyone is wondering, each step of boost or cut is approximately 0.5dB if your normal volume is in the range of -25dB -> -3dB.
disable_bassboost_FM removes the additional +6dB bass boost that Mk2/Mk2a players apply on the FM input.
I'll try and get some info to Loren for the FAQ soon.

Thanks, Mark, this will make PopUp functionality even better!
However, I have a strange behaviour of remote-contol utils (LoJack, VNC, 'XSL-ied' web interface) with 247: in effect, whichever button I press (on the RC app, not the player itself), the player behaves as if I am holding it until I press another one. Say, volume up will ramp up until I press the knob, which will cycle the sources untill something else is pressed.
Is that a bug in 247, or has http command interface changed on purpose, but I have old apps? I don't have older versions oh Hijack handy to try dowgrading.
Thanks!

Hijack didn't (purposely) change any of that in v247. And I just tried a few lower level tests to confirm that the remote interfacing still works as intended, at least for me.
But since I live in the Linux "ghetto", none of those fancy web interfaces to my own software work for me, so I cannot test with them (except for VNC!).

Hijack v248: ButtonLED & Anim support for Mk1's

Okay, v248 is out. This release is primarily for Mk1 users.
New in this version are:
The Button Illumination Level menu item now also appears on Mk1 players, chewing up a bit of memory, but allowing control of the brightness levels of the button LEDs (if you've installed the hardware add-on kit).
The /proc/ entries for empeg_kernel and empeg_bootlogos now appear on Mk1 players, as well as Mk2(a). This is to allow animation customization using a shell utility (see below).
A new external aniwrite utility is now available, which can be used on Mk1/Mk2(a) players at the shell prompt, to customize (or reset) the boot animation without using JEmplode. Since Mk1 users cannot currently use JEmplode for boot animations, this may be useful to them. Note to Mike: add code to JEmplode to write animations using the serial link!
I've attached the source code of animwrite.c to this posting.
Both the source, and a pre-compiled binary (ready to run) will appear on the Hijack site (at the top of the page), along with v248, shortly.
Cheers

Mmm.. okay, not sure why the attachment doesn't work, but I'll have it all on the Hijack site in a few minutes regardless.

So you tried it with VNC and it works? Weird! (Actually, as nobody else seems to be complaining, it's behaviour of my installation that is weird...)

No, I didn't actually try it with VNC; I was just commenting that of those apps, VNC is the only one that is available to me. The others are all very Microsoft-centric at present.
But I tested this way, as can you:
