If I were to bolt/screw the docking sled to the cage in the dash would there be any reason why I couldn't cut a few mm from the front of the whole sled so the metal lip wouldn't show and so the empeg will mount completely flush against the dash?
Well, I guess the only problem may be the latch that locks/snaps the empeg into the sled itself.
Since I don't have it handy, how far is it from the sled "lip" to the front edge of the anchor slot?
Thanks

Since the empeg sled is a hard-to-replace item, I would tend to want to protect it in favor of anything else. I'd mod the car before I'd mod the sled. You will be able to get a million replacements for the car parts many years into the future, but a replacement empeg sled is going to be a pretty rare item soon (already is, for the Mk1 sled).
If the player does not sit flush with the dash, I would re-do the bolt holes in the right place rather than try to cut the sled. In fact, it might be a problem because the docking connector needs to be at a certain depth to work properly.
If you do not like seeing the metal lip, I would suggest doing this trick from the FAQ rather than cutting the sled.

I actually cut off the right and left lip when I got my first Mk2, The original empeg only had lips on the top and bottom, so I modified my new sled. So you can do it, but like Tony said, now they are hard to come by so you might not want to.

Ok so what happens if something happens to my sled in 3 years(stolen car/broken/worn out and not fixable)?

Bolt holes? Yeah I'm kinda pissed the installer used just the tabs... I could have done it myself but I didn't have time.
There are no gaps but rather I can see the metal sled peeking out of the edge of my unit.. The metal tab usage means the sled will move a little, so the plastic racial-rigged(don't wanna offend Jerry) trick might come loose easily..
I may have to tear it up and bolt the sucker... I hope I can remove the sled without disconnecting any wires(via cutting)..

That's actually ``jury-rigged'', not ``Jerry-rigged''. Although I'm sure some people intentionally started saying ``Jerry'' during a World War somewhere. It seems to come from the nautical term ``jury mast'', which was a temporary mast erected when another failed, IIRC. In fact, ``jury'' is now an adjective that means ``temporary and makeshift''.

Very interesting. I though Jerry-rigged was the correct one. Thanks for setting us straight.

Yeah I knew about jury-rigged, but because of its misuse 'jerry-rigged" was added to the dictionary(most I believe), and thus made my joke possible..

I actually never heard of Jerry-rigged. Jury-rigged yes, jerry no. Strange... I wonder if it's because I'm from New York originally? Is the jerry mutation a west coast phenomenon?

Nope. I hear them about equally, and I'm in Raleigh, NC (and was back when it was mostly populated by Southerners).

I won't even mention how i heard it growing up in Louisiana from my relatives... hell, how i STILL hear it from my grandpa.
Actually, i heard someone use that term recently and it really caught me by surprise out here on the West coast.

And here in the (relatively) deep South, I still occasionally hear ``n****r engineered''. Or the only slightly less offensive ``Afro-engineered''. Isn't racism lovely? (sarcasm)

It's really sad that we have to put thsoe disclaimers in there. Even though it was completely obvious to anyone with an inkling of intelligence someone will find offense to it and raise a stink. Possibly someone without an inkling?

Inkling? Inkling!? Your reference to black writing fluid can only be interpreted as a vile, racist slur!
Shame on you!

No, no, he's obviously an ageist, since as everybody knows, an inkling is an immature ink.
