Hijack v254 is now out in the usual place.

This version is mainly just an update to incorporate tfabris's new default settings for the Low/Medium/High "Auto Volume Adjust" settings.

The new defaults sound (to me) like a major improvement over the original ad-hoc settings. And if you don't like'em, use config.ini settings to override them with your own fav's.

And a reminder: Don't expect much else to happen on the Hijack front until at least June-2002. I'm now busy with a major (for me) Linux kernel development contract: lot's of fun work, but no time for Hijack work.

Plus I just got my new digicam kit (Canon EOS D60 etc..), and rock-climbing season is now here in the Great White North, so time may be scarce until the snow flies again.

Cheers

Mark

Mark, did you also include Genixia's latest patch to remove some extra debug messages on the serial port when changing EQ settings?

By the way, his patch is located here in case you need a place to get it.

That is a very nice camera. Those just came out didn't they. I have a friend who bought a D30 a couple of months ago because he was in a hurry. Now he is about to get the D60 and I will likely get his D30 for cheap. I hope you enjoy it.

Yes, quite nice. They just hit the streets a couple of weeks ago, and are only now becoming less scarce.

So far only two major bugs:

(1) the focus-assist lamp sometimes fools the auto-exposure calculation, resulting in under-exposed pictures.

(2) the focus-indicator LEDs in the viewfinder frequently fool the auto-exposure calculation, resulting in under-exposed pictures.

Apart from those, the capture speed is excellent, the playback speed sucks, and the auto-focus is leagues better than my older Nikon-E990.

Cheers

I can understand (1) but not (2).

The D60 has three little rectangles visible through the viewfinder, which mark the exact positions for the "focus points" for the auto-focus mechanism. One or more of these will light up in red when focus is achieved. This red illumination unfortunately is also "seen" by the auto-exposure logic, so it sometimes believes the subject matter to be brighter than it really is..

Duh!

LOL...That's the sort of thing that I'd code..

...Well, maybe even I wouldn't do that.

Right, which is what I don't get. You would think that the optical "order" of things in the camera would be designed so that the indicator LEDs were behind the exposure sensors. I don't see why the indicators need to be that far "forward" in the light path. Makes no sense that they'd design the camera that way?

The focus indicator lights work by projection onto the focus screen, which is visible in both directions: towards the eyepiece, and towards the exposure meter..

Apparently it happens with some film cameras as well. But I consider it just a plain goof by Canon.
