Not looking for hugh wattage, just something with enough power to drive the factory speakers in my Corolla, as up-grading the speakers is not a current option.

Or hell even some suggestions on what/where to buy a new amp.
Help!

in a word: ebay.

There are several hundred of them (out of more than 3,000 total) in auctions that end today.

Now, if the thought of trying to decide on which of 3,000 amplifiers to buy is daunting... try this.

Sort the results by "items ending first" (that's the default, you probably won't have to do anything) and then start down the list. When you see an amplifier in your price range, then do a google search and find out information about the amplifier. If it meets your requirements, place your bid. If you get out-bid, then repeat as necessary. In a couple of hours work you can get your amplifier and save perhaps a couple hundred dollars.

The main advice is to not pay retail. In my limited experience, the retail price should include a full body massage while they're having PhD's install it. Unfortunatly I havn't found a shop that shares my views.

On the other end of the scale, anyone who's ever had their car stereo stolen will be eternally gratefull if you make a concious effort not to buy stolen equipment. Manuals or recipts would be great, or just someone you trust.

I got my amp from hanging out on a car stereo board while waiting for my empeg to arrive. I found someone local selling an amp they'd gotten a good deal on and bought too many.

If anyone going to the Boston GTG has an amp that they are intrested in selling, I'll be there and intrested.

tanstaafl. - good suggestion, have modified the search to "amp "4 channel" <brand>" which gives a very managable return, although I am sure I miss out on some.

FYI, I have a modest Soundstream 4+1 channel P205 amp that I pulled off my boat that I would sell for cheap. You can find an owner's manual here . It's a bit of an odd shape (about 16x6x2") so it may not fit your install and it may be expensive to UPS it cross-country. Plus, one of the RCA ground jackets pulled loose when I unplugged the patch cord, so I don't get the sense that it's designed all that well....but it's just taking up space on my shelf, so I'd sell it for $40 + shipping. It did work just fine on the boat, FWIW. It just consumed too many amps so I decided to run directly off my head unit.

Jim, I'll get back to you on this next week after I get a chance to see if it will fit under the passanger seat (16" = cable space) and after Boston GTG.
robricc has offered me "Chinese no-name amp" if he can find it, which I am going to take him up on - it will give me a chance to get everything in place and see what I need to do for the future.

PS can you check what shipping would be to 01754?
Thanks again.

I did a rough calc on www.ups.com, and it actually looks like it wouldn't be that bad -- $10-$15. Now whether it'll fit under your seat is another thing. It's in my box of addities to put on eBay sometime (I finally created a seller profile this week...) but no rush.

I researched many amps just recently. I was looking for a 4 channel cheap amp but enough power if I wanted to upgrade the stock speakers.
I came up with a Pioneer 300W 4-channel amp. for $99 and it was not from eBay.

Most of the 4 channel low cost amps I was looking for were actually over priced or had bad reviews about them. I ended up choosing one of those electric dot com warehouses. I've been happy so far. No external noises at all.
