so when is the next version coming out? got another question for those techies. it doesn't happen anymore, but my player before ocassionally would quit playing music and all the sudden produce this really high pitched frequency, and the player wouldn't respond at all. i had to pull it out of the docking sled to make it quit. and then i would re-insert it, and it would do it again, and now it hasn't done it, for about 3 weeks. i am deficient on the diagnostic side, so a little help please.

Next version is coming out When It's Ready (tm). Remember this is a discontinued product and any work they do on its software is purely through their good graces.

but my player before ocassionally would quit playing music and all the sudden produce this really high pitched frequency, and the player wouldn't respond at all. i had to pull it out of the docking sled to make it quit.

You would need to narrow down whether the problem was:

- Mis-wiring, faulty wiring, or a fault in the amplification.

- Fault in the MP3 file that was being played.

- Fault in the player software.

- Fault in the player hardware.

Any clues you can give us to help narrow it down?

it wasn't faulty wiring from the amplifier, because i double checked that. i kinda had the suspicion that it was faulty mp3 files, but that went out the door when it also happened on tracks that i had on the unit for some time....i do get some problems occasionally on the syncronization of the empeg. the player fails to restart if i am transferring alot of files, and i have to do this via usb, because i have yet to get a crossover cable. is it perhaps because the synchronization fails to fully complete?

player fails to restart if i am transferring alot of files,

Known bug in the current beta. Solutions:

- Use 1.03 instead.
- When it's supposed to restart the player and doesn't, restart the player yourself without touching emplode.

Shouldn't have anything to do with the player making high pitched whines.

I'm sure I've heard of that fault before - maybe only once, and I can't place it! Perhaps David will remember.

I can't believe I actually copied that post and separated all the red letters out. It's a really slow night on TV!

Begging didn't work. I don't condone whining. So I had to resort to subliminal.

I can also try exploiting known behavior: visuals sonicblue

brad im sure if we keep bugging enough will we get our next bata, betas are fun to mess with gets everyone excited on the board, and new 3rd party stuff tends to come shortly after, then it dies down again.

I'm just thinking that if there are too many "known" bugs, they won't want their time wasted with bug reports about issues they are already aware of... I'm just getting the feeling that something is coming soon. There has been a lot of traffic coming in from Cambridge, so perhaps another project is about to get released? But that may not happen 'till Fall. Maybe I'm wrong, but Rob and others have hinted that the beta is ready for the public, it just needs the release notes and whatnot.

I can't wait. What I just need is to have the hdd spindown bug solved. For the rest, I'm almost completely happy. I'd love to see eq settings on a per-song basis, and support for flac, but I know those are things I'll see in my empeg quite far in the future anyway (i hope!!) ...

Which hdd spindown bug would that be?

Hijack already includes code to auto-spindown the drives as a failsafe for when the player's mechanism gets confused (by web servers, ftp, whatever..).

Hey Mark! nice to read you!

I remember it's been mentioned before. Disks spin down when they shouldn't. When skipping to the next song, or sometimes even without doing that, disks are spun down, so they need to spin up again before the song starts. That causes a couple of seconds delay, and a "W" appears next to the disk icon. You can hear disk one and two spin up during that time, in sequence. AFAIK HiJack has nothing to with this, or am I worng? Did I miss any workaround for this?

I am not familiar with THAT problem, except to say that the disks are normally spun down, so when hitting buttons on the remote (or front panel) to change tracks, it is quite possible and normal to have to wait for them once in a while. This should NOT happen during normal playlist playback (so long as nobody is pressing buttons).

Cheers

It almost always happen when the player is in shuffle mode, regardless whether I press the skip button or not. And it never happened to me before b11, so I suppose it's a bug... I was for some reason sure that it is a known bug, but I may be wrong.

I know what you mean, I have this problem too. It never happened with v1.03, but beta11 has so much more advantages that I've learned to live with it.
Basically with b11 almost every time I skip a track I'd have to wait 2-3 secs before the tracks starts playing. This was not the case with 1.03 and I too blamed this on somesort of incorrect (or rather 'not optimal') hd caching technique.

Of course you're not! Who dares to say you are? The Force is strong inside you.... (Just came back from Episode II, I could not resist ) The bug is there, and it alters the equilibrium of the Force...

Don't say anything about Ep2 yet... I'm not going to see it until tomorrow night! No spoilers!

You are largely underestimating the Force, padawan. I would never do anything like that.
