I have created a utility that allows to create or alter Rio player's font files (.bf) for my own use. I thought that it might be usefull to others too, so I release it here. Just read the Help for details.
Any suggestions/comments are welcomed!

Cool!
Except it doesn't work on my system. It doesn't display any fonts in the main window, and I can't select any specific character for editing.
Oh, and the About box gets really goofy....

Tony, if you could give me some more details on the platform, I might solve it. I haven't done much of beta testing in other than win2000.
Thanks

Seems to work fine on my Win2k. I think Tony is using XP. I think I saw him mention it somewhere. Now I just need a large number of hours to design my own fonts.
Nice work (and very small given it's a Windoze program)

The platform I was running to produce that screenshot was Windows 98 Retail (not the SR2 release).

I found where the problem is: Win98 do no support more than 255 controls on run-time created dialog box. I will change the way i create the dialog and I will post a new version.
Though I have another serious problem, which propably has to od with the player. I alter the large.bf file but the player doesn't seem to acknoledge this. It disaplays the text visuals using the old font. This doesn't happen in medium.bf and small.bf. Does any body have any idea? I include an altered large.bf in the attachment.

I don't know the particular problem with your "large BF" file. The only things I could think of are:
- Wrong spelling of the file name.
- Wrong letter-case of the file name.
- Wrong permissions on the file.
- Did not delete the original file before uploading it.
- Drives not set drives back to read-only after sending file to the player, resulting in loss or corruption of the file.
Regarding the "fixed" version with the Win98-compatible dialog box... Please upload it to the file section of RioCar.Org and then I will link it from the FAQ after it is approved.

I am sure that it isn't any of these. Even if I delete large.bf from the player and leave it with out the specific font, it still displays the old font, so it must keep a second copy somewhere. I am expecting to see the large font in the Informative Visuals. Is there any other section that it is being displayed?
As for the version for win98, bad news. Windows don't support in any way more than 255 controls, which means I have to redisign the application interface. I believe I will find enough time to do so in the next couple of days. Until then, I have uploaded the application (with a small fix regarding clipboard copy/paste) in the download section of RioCar.Org, stating that the specific version works only in Win2K and WinXP.

Dude, this is *COOL*.
Schweet. And all those other funky words.
So, when can we see the first real custom font? (I already changed mine slightly so I could tell a "0" from a "O" better.. I'm a programmer. I'm wired like that. )
Me.

ISTR that the visuals don't use the font files at all. Their fonts are internal. Could be wrong, though.

Though I dislike Java, I could give you the source if you just gave me a good reason for porting it to Java.

so, what use do you believe large.bf is intented for? I mean, if it's not used in the Tex Visuals, then why do they include it in the fonts directory?

As far as I can tell (and I've just looked through the source code), it's not used for anything.
Don't know why it's included in the release.

I believe that you are correct, because when I rm the large.bf, the Rio visuals continue to work. Maybe it happens to know if the tex visuals store somewhere their data (executable or mixed data file). If you do it would help me a lot. Binary editing of these files might gave solution to my problem.

How about this:
So everyone could use it rather than just Win2k and WinXP users
Sound like a good enough reason? I thought so, but then I use a Mac :-)

A good reason?
Operating system independance. (That way all those *nix gurus will be able to give your program all the love it deserves).
Besides, I need the practice. I'm getting rusty working for this school. HTML, JS and dealing with users all day.

Cypher mentions in the readme for this that it's possible to copy and paste from an image editing program. I've been messing around with Photoshop 7 for about 4 days now and can't seem to paste anything into the editor. Most times, I get either a "must be 24bpp" error or "height must be 18".
Anyone have some ideas what I'm doing wrong? I really want to create a custom font!
Thanks
