They told my father this after his second heart attack. He's thrilled by it.

Drinking beer could reduce the risk of cancer, strokes and heart disease, Germany’s brewers’ federation said Monday, hoping to inspire the country’s youth to head for the beer garden rather than the gym.

I laughed out loud at the last part of that headline.

I dunno... for me it would be a tough choice deciding whether to drink that foul-tasting stuff every day or take my chances with getting cancer...

Trust me. If it it comes to a battle between acquired tastes, I think you'll find that beer wins by a mile.

It's OK, Doug, red wine will do, especially for cardiac disease prevention. (Interesting, German studies recommend beer or white wine, French red wine, Swedish aquavit.... )

Hm, I had less problem by far acquiring taste for those weird Belgian dark beers aged in casks than acquiring those beers themselves here in Zagreb...

Ah, beer...probably our best export product (together with chocolats and waffels), though consumed very much in the country as well! .

First, I wont get cancer because I drink too much beer, now I might speed up cancer, becuase I drink too much beer....

I think I will just keep drinking beer and not worry about it... This sounds like the whole eggs are bad for you debate...

Actually, if you read the article, it says the problem was because of loss of body fat. So you can

-drink alcohol as a weight-loss scheme
-don't worry about cancer if you also eat a lot of greasy food

Someone once explained to me that he always put lots of salt on fatty foods, so that the increased blood pressure would force his blood through his increasingly sclerotised arteries...

and in other shock headlines Cigarette makers claim smoking is good for asthma

An Australian beer maker is giving away beer to uni students by the slab in an effort to encourage them to drink more beer. Now there's an effective time and motion study!

unfortunately both articles are (almost) saying the same thing,
if you do something in moderation then you are fine, but going too far is bad.
How can this be new news?
But hey, feeding mice on alcohol instead of beer or wine really does prove it, doesn't it?
