Hi all,
Just recently received my brand new rio car.
I was nervously awaiting it's arrival, as i am in Australia i had concerns about damage/loss in transit.
Not to worry 7 days later arrived in perfect condition!!
Spend several days uploading mp3's then installed in my mazda mx6 once all was in order. (i will post pics when i learn how) Went in car no problems. (however i am getting alternator whine, maybe ground loop as you guys mentioned, still gotta iron that one out)
I have to say this thing is awesome ( i new it well before i even ordered one)
your faq and these forums are so comprehensive all my questions and concerns were dissmissed prior to purchase.
I managed to secure one of the last 10gig models from carplayer.com .
The search abilities and the uniqueness of this make it untouchable by any other know product, to me at least.
Any way i've rambled on enough. Just could'nt sit back any longer without saying my two cents.
Thanks
Glen

There is a feature of empegs never mentioned before, you will learn sh1t loads about computers when you really get into the empeg. I learnt loads about networking and many other things since getting one.
I wouldn't go for anything like Hijack etc for at least a month

You're going to love it!! If you can, get an extra AC adapter and set it up with a little amp or something @ work. It's totally awsome to be able to work and look @ the pretty graphics when you need a break from the <fill in appropriate activity>.
When I first bought my empegs I thought I'd just bought the most awsome car head unit... but it's more than that. I've been to 2 parties this weekend. When I told the hosts that I'd left my empeg @ home you should have seen the sad faces....
Also, a couple reccomendations.
Get a Neon Red or Orange faceplate from Darkstorm. They look VERY cool and should go ok pretty well with your cars dash (I've a Mazda '89 TII). It costs $35 U.S. but It's well worth it. You don't get the same effect with the factory faceplates.
DON'T leave your empeg in the car EVER. It seems as though car theives are learning about them and are willing to take enough care to ACTUALLY PULL THE SLED OUTin some cases. I've had very good luck with a PS1 portable bag. It holds my Empeg AND wallet + celphone + palm. For $14 you can't go wrong.
But WAIT! THERE'S MORE!!

Howdy Glen,
Not in Brisbane by any chance are you? There's at least 4 people now in Brisbane with an empeg. Mess around with it as much as you can. There a lots of little tricks etc that take a while to learn - the FAQ is an excellent place to start if you haven't already found it.
I'm not sure about leaving Hijack off for a month though.

Thanks for the response guys.
No I'm not in brisbane, Townsville actually (north of Bris.)
Yeah I've already upgraded to V2B11 and installed Hijack.
Could'nt resist the temptation.
I did wait a week tho !
Could'nt believe the differnce and added features from V1.03
to Beta11 . Awesome.
Will there be more of these excellent Beta versions in the future ? Hope so.
Yeah love hooking it up to home stereo, only problem everyone wants to try it (No chance !)

Your next step is to go out and get a network card and a crossover cable and go for an ethernet connection it is far better than usb.
YOu will be learning about the empeg for months

Better still, upgrade your car! Man, if I was living in Australia, I'd go out and buy me one of them Holden cars. Wow! Why doesn't GM make 'em here in the US, I don't know, but a full-sized six speed with a 400hp corvette engine, independent suspension, big leather interior, for UNDER $30k?! WTF?

Eh?
the 400hp (300kW) Holden Commodore costs nearly A$100k or about US$55k. However for about A$50k (around US$27k) you can get a SS commodore with a 300hp (225kW) LS1 including IRS but no leather etc. Oh and the 6 speed gearbox is shite in my opinion. My boss has a middle of the road 255kW version and he nearly has to double clutch sometimes to get it in on fast up changes.
If you want to talk car prices, how about an BMW M3? About US$45k, call it A$90k. In Oz the base price for an M3 is A$141.5k or about US$75k

Sorry to hijack ( ) the thread but how much did you pay for a 97 M3? Going rate here for a 97 (i.e. E36) M3 is about A$75k or about US$35-40k.

I paid $30k for it. This is high for a 97 here in the US but i felt it was worth it because of the low miles. One with 50-75k miles would probably go for about $25k.

Still, there are SO many parts for the LS1 over here! Easy bump (blower, nitrous, etc) to 400+. Plus the LS1 is way under rated at 300. Didn't know the manual was a problem, since we get slushboxes only in the US
The M is a beautiful car! Dealer markup kills a bit, and I like a bigger wheelbase and mroe torque, so I'm more an M5 than M3 guy. Not enough twisty roads round here to need a small car.
And don't they shoehorn that beautiful Corvette LS1 into a bunch of teeny rally sized cars also? Man, why oh WHY don't they bring these GM's to the home shores?! Argh!

Gidday Accept - Welcome a new Aussie owner!
Re: "Better still upgrade your car man"
Yeah I liked that idea Skeeter I paid 35k AUD (under 20kUS) for my LS1 Commodore. They are a crap car though I only bought it for the motor, Every year they seem to be made of more low grade plastic, It's got the same motor as the SS but without all the fins, I like the sleeper type look but you can't buy a V8 exec (vanilla) anymore like the Empeg they don't make em, The best thing about Central Australia is no Speed Limits, (And fireworks are legal) but out here it's 450K to the nearest town Tennant Creek North and 700k south Coober Pedy with no Radio stations that makes my Empeg like a dream!!! The only car accessory I can think of might be better than an Empeg might be wings.
Has anybody put an Empeg in their Cessna?
