Just got my Rio not too long ago. What kind of forseeable problems am I looking at when installing this into a 99 grand am se? I think one problem might be that the factory unit (Delco) may not have an amp already installed somewhere. Any info on this would certainly be helpful.

...and yes, I am a newbie. Don't roast me too bad, now.

There's a lot of good knowledge in the FAQ on car installation.

Take the time to read the other parts of the FAQ too.

well start by reading the install FAQ

if you have space in the dash for the empeg and existing headunit you might be able to get an adapter which will fool the factory unit into accepting the input from the empeg believing it is coming from a CD changer

edit: need to type faster!

Beerman, hopefully you won't feel that we are roasting you. It is just that the FAQ will answer alot of your initial questions and create many more.
It is this second wave of questions that are better asked, as at that time you'll have a good idea of what you want to achieve but some uncertainty of how to go about it.

Never got that feeling. I appreciate the immediate feedback...aaaand, I do feel like a complete moron now for not looking at the FAQ in the first place.

I hope I don't ask any more moot questions, but I will apologize in advance in case I do. I'm just getting my feet wet into car audio, so a lot of the terminology will be Greek to me. I've been looking at basic stuff a la Crutchfield and one other place I can't think of right at the moment to kind of "beef up" my knowledge so I DON'T ask stupid questions like my last one.

Again, thanks for the feedback.

Nah, a 13 minute response time isn't worth a cookie... We've got to keep the standards high!
