Ok, I have a few questions on the install of my EMPEG (which has already been completed, but I am trying to improve it):
1.) My RCAs in the docking sled for the front outputs don't work at all ( I contacted support today via email and am awaiting the response). Is this a docking sled or unit problem?
2.) When the RCA situation is resolved, can I set the rear outputs with an equalizer setting of just around 125Hz and below with volume for my sub and the fronts with nothing lower than 125 Hz and totally eliminate the use of a crossover?
Thanks in advance,
Justin

Regarding the outputs...

1) Check your fader setting.

2) Check to see if the wires have pulled out of the docking connector. There is a FAQ entry under "Troubleshooting" about this.

Failing those two, Support will help you, make sure you used the [email protected] address to reach the right person. Note that Monday is (I seem to recall) a Bank Holiday in the UK and therefore do not expect a reply until after Tuesday.

Regarding the Equalizer...

I have once tried using the EQ as a crossover. It doesn't work. It only reduces the frequencies "to a point", but does not do a genuine shelving crossover that completely cuts off the frequencies. Also, the automatic "Q" parameter won't work right for this purpose, you would have to carefully adjust manual Q setting and even then it wouldn't be perfect..

Quick Note: The RCA problem has been there since I first got the unit (in Apr.), I am just getting around to it now, because I want to eliminate the current HU in the car. Yes, the wires are connected and the fader is set up right (had to fade to the rear because of no sound through the fronts.)

Also, would the crossovers at: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-7NsgCf2R2vv/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=82600&I=069900076&o=m&a=0
work for the fronts (I don't need them for the rears because the subwoofer amp controls that.)?

Next week is the Bank Holiday, and most of the country have both Monday and Tuesday off (3rd and 4th June). Unfortunately tommorow is a plain old normal Monday

Would it help to remove the wire and then re-insert it into the docking connector? Just so I could make sure I have a good connection?

Normally, the last Monday in May is a Bank Holiday, and you would be correct, Tony. This year is an exception, in order to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, and we get a double Bank Holiday (Monday and Tuesday) next week instead. To be washed down with a pint of Jubilee Ale from just about every brewery in Britain! Mmmm, beer....

Well, the replacement part arrived last week and I haven't gotten around to posting lately, but here goes.
After installing the new wiring harness, the music is audible through the fronts but not on the right speaker. I checked to see if this is a car wiring problem, but I found that to be false. This exact problem happened to me before, I forgot to mention it and accidently posted that the entire front outputs were not working. Not true. Just the front right. What could be the problem of this? Is it a fault of the actual EMPEG itself? I will take a look yet again tomorow and see if the wiring is absolutely correct. Any help will be much appreciated. Also, any word on new Tuners coming out?
Thanks,
Justin

It should be fairly easy to determine whether the problem is at the empeg's outputs or somewhere in the car/amp wiring. You should narrow this down, that should be your first diagnostic step.

I don't know if this helps but if I plug the left into the right, i get no sound; If I plug the left into the left, I get no sound; if I plug the right into the left, i get left channel sound; if I plug the right into the right, i get right channel sound. That seems to me to be an accurate test. The balance and fader are both set to center in these tests.

If I read your test correctly, then the problem is at the amp, the speakers, or the in-car wiring somewhere in the chain AFTER the empeg. The empeg is working fine from what you say.

no the problem is, if i plug the outputs from the empeg into the amp correctly (left to left; right to right), I only get sound out of the right channel, if i plug them in backwards (left to right; right to left) i only get sound out of the left side. Sorry for the confusion.

In reply to:

Regarding the Equalizer...(etc)

It would be nice if some sort of subwoofer output could be implemented - an option in the software that would transform the rear outputs into a dedicated subwoofer output with adjustable crossover point, level adjustment, and all the rest you might expect.

I wonder is it's even a possibility?

Well tested the EMPEG today in the house. Slid the player into the docking sled, plugged RCA's into the front set of preamps and still no sound from the left side. Slid balance to the far left, no sound. Slid balance to the far right, right channel sound. Slid balance to middle, only right channel sound. Unhooked right RCA, no sound from either side. Plugged the left side into the Empegs Right Preout, sound comeing from left speaker. Plugged the right into the left, no sound. By the way, the balance on the recevier I plugged the empeg into was set to center.
