My *VERY* good friend is generously giving me a RioCar unit. Unfortunately, he has misplaced the AC power adapter for use in the home.

I'm not that technical when it comes to electronics so I could not tell what I need from the manual....

Is it a standard power supply that I could pick up at Radio Shack (or Fry's Electronics), or do I need to make a special order somewhere?

There's also a search feature. It's "Exact Phrase Only" but a search on "power supply" and "video" would have yielded results.

Now that the store has closed, I've had a lot (120+) of US power supplies transferred to my repair stock. If anyone has any trouble finding one locally, email me and I'll arrange a sale. $15 including shipping (airmail) to anywhere.

Note this only applies to the PSUs - I've run out of everything else!

I take it you have none with a UK input voltage? My empeg is an import so I only have the US adaptor, so I've got a 6inch cube 240-120v transformer with the nice svelte empeg transformer perched on top like a pimple

I did try a UK 12v power supply (3rd party, not official empeg one), which worked fine, but unfortunately it must have had loose laminated plates, as after about an hour it buzzed loud enough to be heard throughout the house

If these are the little "compact plug top" adapters, I would highly recommend taking David up on his offer. These units are good for a couple reasons:

1) They are an "Anti-wall-wart" design that is very clever. They are still a wall wart, but the casing is shaped in such a way that they don't block other plugs when plugged in. Very very nice.

2) They can prevent a home-stereo ground loop in some circumstances. For traveling, I normally used the two-piece PSU (with the separate 3-prong mains lead) which came with the player. It worked fine in 99 percent of the locations. However, I have one friend whose stereo doesn't like that PSU, and there is a nasty ground loop when I use it. Last weekend I verified that the newer compact-plug-top model does not have the ground loop when plugged into this friend's stereo. Worked great all night at the LAN party.

I have a very small number of the IEC units available - they're not for sale, but I can swap one for a US power supply. email me.

Alternatively, got to Maplins and ask for a 'Sunpower MA15-150' - I think they're about £25. A plug top version is also available, I *think* the part code is MA15B.

I got a UK plug-top adapter from Argos. I can't remember the model number, but it's the only 12V adaptor they have that can supply 1A. Roughly £15.

Unplugging it (now that my sync has finished, it identifies itself as "In Touch model 982/7538"; it's 3-12V switched and up to 1200mA.

Perhaps this could augment the FAQ entry?
