If you want a original sled expect to pay between at least 150 to 200 USD for one.

Hmm, do I hear the words ebay and echoes of "Tuner module"?

$2000 and you can have mine - I'll even throw a 10GB player in for that price - I have to pay for my original empeg expenses somehow

Well, technically, I haven't received my Rio Car yet (on its way from Canada), and I didn't have any clue about the device, nor the fact that there was a going-out-of-business-sale. So that was never an option for me.

As for Laura's oh-so-gracious/facetious offer of $800, I respectfully decline.

Can't blame me for trying. I hope you find one, I bought my extra right before the store closed in hopes of someone building me a home docking station in the future.

I expect they will appear on ebay for probably over $200 since they cost $149 originally. I remember the MKl sleds going for more than they cost originally and now those are like gold if you can find one for sale.

I'd hope your player comes with a sled.

If not then you try and ask for a $200 reduction in price to cover the cost of obtaining one.

[and yes all units came with a 'free' sled originally].

But if you need a second sled for that second car, then the best hope is to find someone with a spare one for sale.

Hey, me too. And if need be, I can tear up said docking station if I ever want to have a second car install...

Oh, stop bragging. I'm one of the poor saps who didn't get to the store in time (I have some semblance of a life) and won't be able to get a spare. And someday, I know, I will regret that.

Someone on this board is going to put together
the connectors and harnesses that are mounted to the rear of the sled,
It is MY plan to use those to make home docking stations WITHOUT an actual sled.
Some from wood at first, unfinished.
So people can stain and polyurethane them to their liking,
Then possible some black 'metal' ones.
There is a shop near me that sells "empty" stereo equipment chassis that
come with flat black fronts that can be cut out with you favorite dremmel tool.
The connector are said to be available next month

I will keep everyone in the loop on my docking station creation project,
probably not until August for that, however.

Actually, Shonky, who is organising the connectors, is away until the end of June, so will not be ordering the connectors until he gets back. The delivery time is supposed to be 4-6 weeks from the manufacturer, then there's construction of the harnesses, and shipping time from Australia.

It's probably going to be 8-10 weeks before you can get your hands on a connector.

HTH,

A.

well 8-10 weeks would put us right in the month of August,
and if I start making docking stations then,
I'll have a couple weeks to come up with a few designs,
just in time for the connectors.

If all goes well, completed docks will probably go on sale here sept 1.
stay tuned.

Some people, like me, did, and didn't get a sled or remote anyway. C'est la vie.
