Hello,

I just upgrade the hard drive of my player (now have a 80Gb).

I have upgrade the player software with the Emplode 2.00 beta 13. The player seams to bott normally, but when I use the original Emplode software I get the message:

Download failed while checking media: Error 0xc0041016

The same message appreas when I connect using the serial port or even the network.

I also have tried to connect the player user JEmplode 69, same result but when JEmplode try to get info from the player, he reboots it and then I get the message :

The following problems occured during download:
There isn't a file with FID 2 on this device.

Somebody can help me... PLEASE...

Txs

You said you upgraded the player to 2.0 beta 13.

Then you said you used the original emplode. I assume by "Original" you mean 1.03.

Please upgrade both the player, and the version of Emplode on your PC, to version 2.0 final for both. These are two separate upgrades, remember. One for the player firmware and one for the emplode software.

If you still get an error message, please make sure you're not having hard disk trouble as described here, then check here for instructions on how to check the filesystems on the hard disks by hand.

Oh wait. Rewind all of that.

You just said you did a hard disk upgrade with an 80 gig disk.

It's possible the builder image didn't work right. Assuming your music is backed up, then please run the builder image a second time and remember to press Enter in hypterterminal to the "disk appears to be already built" prompt. (I'm assuming that you were carefully following the disk upgrade guide and therefore know what I'm talking about already.)

If that doesn't work, then come back here and we can give you instructions on manually partitioning the disk.

Sorry for my first unclear explanation...

To resume:
My player had before 1x 12Gb and 1x40Gb. At this time everything work fine.

Then I replace all HD by a 80GB. I first use the empegUpgrade.exe coming from the empeg web site (emplode 2.00 beta 13). And before I was also using this version of both software and firmware (except the firmaware that was a HiJack.

I have tried to rolled back with only the 40GB and everything worked fine. I could sync without error message.

The problem is that my 80GB is woriking fine under windows...

What do you mean about:
press Enter in hypterterminal to the "disk appears to be already built" prompt

Where should I get this message ?

And last, should I user the consumer or the developper version of the firmware from Empeg.com ?

Ah. then that is your problem. You didn't use the builder image. If you had, the disk wouldn't work fine under Windows. If the disk is working fine under windows, it means you didn't partition and format it with the builder image.

This means you did not follow the instructions in the Disk Upgrade guide. Start over from scratch. This time, follow the instructions in the Disk Upgrade guide to the letter. Specifically, the part about using the builder image.

Carefully follow the instructions in the disk upgrade guide and it will guide you through this part.

When I said the HD is working fine under Windows, I mean that the HD after formated in NTFS is ok.

I have tried to reproduce as clser as possible the reformatting procedure shown above and seams to get the same error. The HD seams to be formatted but still error during opening Empeg from Emplode tool.

Is it interresting for you to have the error message output from the Haperterminal ? Because inside it says something about the mounting HD.

Your disk is not formatted. You need to re-run (re-apply) the "builder" firmware.

This is what I have done, but right after the builder has binished, I start a hyper terminal session and here is the boot result:

As far as I can understand, the HD is not correctly formatted. So is there an understandable and a comprehensive step by step procedure to format manually the HD ? I really dont have any knowledge in lunix...

Hm. Okay, it seems as though the builder is just flat out not working. There seemed to be a memory error in there somewhere.

See if Roger's Manual Build Procedures will work.

Hey, Mark, any new ideas about how to make this all easier for folks, short of cornering the empeg guys for an updated builder program?

That's just the standard "out of memory" from the builder image --> happens on any 80GB+ drives.

IT WOOOOOKKKKSSSSSS !!!

Oh God. Fianly it works.

I had to apply the "Roger's Manual Build Procedures". I have followed the procedure directely from the EMPEG.

So it means that the Builder image is really bad for such kind of HD.

Txs to all for the help.

Rgds.
