I was trying to configure the equalizer to setup my stereo system.
I use a Spectrum analyzer program on my laptop.
First I decided to connect the output of the empeg directly to the input of the Laptop to see the behavior of the equalizer.
The test signal was a swap frequency from 20 to 20k Hz generated by =Cool Edit and stored as wav into the empeg.
Good thing is that the frequency response is very flat without equalization.
The equalizer works very well en is very precise ,but some times acts in a strange way .

I set the lock as left=right.
On band 5 -5db 700Hz q 0.04.
All the other bands on FLAT.

The two channels should sound the same but the graph shows a big difference.
The Right channel works perfectly , but the left don’t. (see attached jpg)

It seems to me that there is some kind of bug somewhere in the Equalizer applications.

Did some of yours had the same kind of experience?

P.S.
I have a EMPEG 2a 10 gig, running 2.00beta11 and hijack 220.

All I can say is umm..... wow. I'm lucky if I can hear the difference with delay times. ;8^)

I agree with you - I think that there is a bug in the player's eq section.

I discovered this when coding up the bass & treble adjustments - the values that the player was writing to the eq sections were different for each channel, even though the channels were locked.

Can you try setting the values with the channel lock off, and then repeat the graph? I think there's a bug in the Q code and the freq code.

I'd really appreciate if you can do this - I'm trying to decode the frequency and q values register format for the bass and treble feature, but I'm reasonably convinced that the player bug exists, and this makes the decoding remarkably difficult. If we can confirm that the player has a bug then we can get the empeg guys to fix it, which in turn increases my chances of implementing a more robust and easier to use bass/treble feature.

Thanks.

Point taken...
I did the same test but setting the lock to indipendent.
Now the two graph are identical.
In fact , setting the Q to 0.1 i quite like setting a very large band, so almost all the spectrum is attenuated.
Hope helps.

That is some difference!

It definately seems to be the case that there is a bug in the channel lock code whereby the channels aren't identical. This problem is compounded by another (bug?) where the player forgets the channel lock mode at powerdown.

Do you want to enter a bug report, and email the empeg guys..You found it first. You can reference this thread as it has some good info in it.

Thanks for doing that second graph for me.

I just added it to the internal bugbase, number 1799.
