where do most people put theres?

A lot depends on how good your scanner is.

I am running a 15 year old HP scanner that was top of their line when I bought it, it cost over $1000, and it still outperforms the little toy USB scanners that everyone seems to be using today.

I can scan in an 8x10 color photo in about 8 seconds, with lots of control over resolution, color balance, image size and format.

Scanning in a few hundred old pictures would not be a particularly daunting task -- I could probably do it in under an hour.
